Q&A - Competition

How did you get started?

It all started in 2007 when me and two mates of mine decided to do our first marathon race which was 27 km long. We had been practicing 2 or 3 times a week on this 12km circut that we did. We really thought we were in top form and got to the race knowing nothing but how to pedal a bike. I was using my dads extra large mountain bike and had just learnt how to use clip in pedals. We ended up just coming in the top one hundred positions. We were totally stoked and so thats where it all began. I got my first racing bike at the end of that year and competed in all the local events around my town.

List your competitive highlights:

I went for a ride once with Conrad Stolts which was amazing. This year I came 14th in the Junior South African Marathon Champs which I did after a three week holiday which I was basically forced to go to. Was happy with the result though.

What are you planning for next season?

I am wanting to compete in all the national Cross country and Marathon events next year as well as getting into a bit of road cycling. Then also might be going to europe with my coach and her other junior athletes to gain some points for the USI.

What has been your biggest accomplishment?

Feeling that i'm in top condition and can't wait for the new season to come!

A bit about Me!!!

I am so fortunate to have been able to grow up in a mountainous town just outside of Cape Town. To me, my dream sport is not about always coming first, its about feeling the pain, concentration and being competitive. I'm just a regular kid that has a passion for endurance and will always try be at the top of my league.
